SYMMETRY

A type of balance in which both sides of a center line are exactly or nearly the same, like a mirror-image. It is also known as formal balance.

 

MOVEMENT

A way of combining visual elements to produce a sense of action. This combination of elements helps the viewer's eye top sweep over the work in a definite manner.

 

 

Assignment: Create an artwork using ONLY lines. Create a mirror image of this artwork. Break the monotonous, mirror-image symmetry with colors by creating one of the art works in color while leaveing the other one black and white.(Creative variation: color SOME part of one artwork while leaving other parts black and white. Do the OPPOSITE on the other work leaving the colored part, black and white and the black and white part, colored. Artwork should show RHYTHM and MOVEMENT.
